Americana duo ‘The Luck’ have returned to release their anthemic new single ‘If This Is Love’. The rousing track focuses on those post-breakup moments when you convince yourself that if it is meant to be, then it will be. The track is as sensitive as it is empowering, and as positive as it is heart-wrenching.
We caught up with the pair chat about their plans for the future, and what we can expect next from.
Hi! For those new to your music, could you quickly introduce yourself?
Hi! We’re The Luck, a brother-sister Americana duo from London!
How do you think being siblings affects your songwriting? Do you ever disagree when it comes to writing music?
Ha, yes! Well we grew up listening to the same music, going to gigs together and liking a lot of the same bands – so we have a lot of similar influences. But we definitely still have disagreements! Being siblings means we are quite honest and straight up with each other, if we feel something works, or doesn’t work in a song…although we have also learnt how to compromise and come up with ways to avoid arguments! Haha.
Can you tell us about your slots on Twitch?
Twitch gave us a slot every Tuesday from 7-9pm to perform on ‘front page’ – meaning if you go to twitch.tv you’ll find us performing on the home page. It’s a great bit of exposure and often you’ll be watched by thousands of people around the world.
What inspired you to write ‘If This Is Love’?
Esmay was going through a break up at the time and we sat down to write a song in LA with two other siblings – two brothers in fact. ‘If This Is Love’ was inspired by the feeling you get when you break up with someone, but wonder if you’ve made the right decision. The only comforting thought at moments like that, is that if you’re really meant to be together, you’ll end up together one day in the future and all the heartache will be worth it.
What did you learn from your time performing and writing in America?
We learnt to ask for ‘animal style’ burgers at In ’n’ Out and how to make a great margarita. How Mexican food can be eaten everyday… and that there is a sensation you get driving along those Californian highways that brings out a certain style of writing, performing, and maybe even thinking.
Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
We are big fans of Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty and The Cranberries, and at the moment we can’t get enough of Kurt Vile and The War On Drug.
What is your most memorable gig and why? Does one immediately spring to mind?
Most memorable show has to be performing at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. For us, it was such a big goal and it’s where we first performed to our producer, Paul Broucek!
If you could go on tour with anyone (dead or alive) who would it be?
On tour…wow. Tom Petty! What a legend.
And finally…. What would be your dream venue to perform in?
Can we say two? Probably the Hollywood Bowl in LA and the Royal Albert Hall in London.
