Tom Walker recently shared a brand new single with fans, “Burn,” after holding off on releasing new music for well over a year. And while fans have been waiting quite some time to hear something new from the award-winning singer-songwriter, Walker assures listeners that there is now plenty of new music on its way. In fact, “Burn” marks the beginning of a new era for Walker as he gears up to release his upcoming sophomore album. In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, Tom Walker opens up about his new single, touring plans, and more.
What can you tell us about your brand new single “Burn” and the inspiration behind it?
It’s definitely one of the heaviest things I’ve made. It’s about giving your everything to someone and then they don’t give you the same back. [It’s about] that feeling once you finally burst. That’s why this song was born and I think it really captures how I was feeling at that time.
What was it like to create the different visuals you have shared so far for this track?
All of the main assets have been quite obviously centered around fire and burning things. It gets pretty hot on set. I’m not great when it comes to heat, so it’s been a struggle at times, but what we’ve made looks next level!
How did the songwriting or production process for this particular track differ from your last few singles?
I wrote this and the majority of the album with a group of writers from the U.S. They’ve really helped me to push myself out of my comfort zone. It’s been quite a while since my first album, so I wanted this next stage of my career to have a very distinct identity to it and I think we’ve certainly created that.
“Burn” gives fans a little preview of the vibe they might hear on your sophomore album. What can you tell us about that upcoming project?
I’m so excited for people to have this next batch of music. I completely appreciate “Burn” might not be for some of the fans of my first album, but once they hear the whole album and the singles we have to come, it will all make sense. I’m confident they’ll love all the songs as much as I do.
Did you have any heavy musical influences when creating your new album? What artists or bands did you find yourself listening to during the production process?
I was listening to a bunch of different things. I’ve always loved bands Imagine Dragons and Royal Blood, but I’ve been listening to artists like Hozier and Raye recently, and that’s made me want to push myself further creatively on this album.
Do you plan on going on tour after the release of your sophomore album?
Touring is so important to me! I love being on the road and seeing the fans, so we’ll have plans to get out on the road for sure. We’re just working out where and when, so definitely keep a look out for that.
What else can fans expect in the near or distant future?
Lots of music! This next album really sums up my life over the past few years. Me and my friends and family have all been through a lot in the last couple of years, so it will be nice to get these songs into the world and hopefully people like them.
