With her latest single just released, we got to chat one on one with RoRo.
Tell us about your new single!
I’M SO EXCITED! My new single is called “On Track”! It’s different than any of my other singles and it’s so close to my heart because I actually created this track from scratch myself. I’ve always been a songwriter but not a full on producer and so I taught myself how to produce in a matter of months and created this single. I’m pretty stoked to share it with everyone.
New single, that certainly must mean a new album too, right?
Yes it does! My album is called “Release” it’s releasing in August 2016. I am the producer, writer, vocalist, mixing engineer, mastering engineer…everything haha! It’s a big project especially since I had to learn how to even produce in the first place! But it’s definitely the most fun I’ve ever had. It has forced me to really understand who I am as an artist and where my heart wants to go. That is why I decided to do it all on my own. I wanted nothing but my heart in this album. I wanted to challenge myself and at the end of it, be able to say, “This is who I am”. Since I moved to Cali, I have been under contracts for many years and for one reason or another, an album was never produced. So when I got out of all contracts, I wanted to take the time to really find who I am according to what makes me happy and finally give my fans an album that they so deserve. They’ve supported me from day one and they deserve nothing less than my absolute best. So that is why this album means so much to me. This is my first footprint as an artist who has found herself.
You made the move from Seattle to California. What are the biggest differences?
The biggest difference between Seattle and California is the weather!! Haha! Seattle is very rainy and gloomy most of the year and Cali is very sunny and warm for pretty much the whole year. That was actually a big deal for us because my mom was suffering from seasonal depression while we were living in Seattle. When we got to California is was like night and day. She was happy again and she’s never had depression since. Also, the beaches are amazing! We don’t have that in Seattle. And of course the whole movie and music industry is here. Saying that, I LOVE Seattle and I’m proud to be from there. I am a die hard Seahawks fan and whenever I fly back to visit family, it’s always so beautiful.
We could watch your YouTube page for days! What’s your favorite go to song to cover?
Aww! Thank you so much! Well I’ve done A LOT of covers throughout the years so that’s a tough one. I’d say anything Jessie J. or Christina Aguilera is always a favorite of mine because I love belting out some power vocals and I love challenging myself. Saying that, my album sounds nothing like Jessie J or Christina haha! It’s more of…well, me! I can’t really describe it other than that lol!
Would you consider posting more dance videos since you’re also a dancer?
I have been thinking about that a lot recently! I really need to because I love dancing!
Any acting in your future?
Definitely!! I love to act and I’ve trained since I was a little girl. My music has always been my main focus but I would really love to do some acting in my future as well.
You’ve stated that you want to be an inspiration, that’s so great! What inspired you to do so.
I started singing when I was 10 years old and I’ve always known that I wanted to do good and help people in some way. But when I started on YouTube, I got to talk to people from all over the world and I started receiving messages about how my videos have inspired them to keep pursuing their dreams or that they were going through a really rough time in their life but my music helped them through it. All of those messages were so touching to me. I always wanted to inspire and do right by people but I never expected that just by me posting videos of me doing what I love, I was already helping some people in some way. So I’d say my fans have been my biggest inspiration to keep pushing through the good and bad times. I want to show them that if you work hard and keep a positive frame of mind, you can achieve any dream.
