Zach Hood first captured the attention of millions with his smash hit single “Isabelle” on streaming platforms. His single “13 Missed Calls” followed “Isabelle” and garnered an overwhelming amount of support from listeners all around the world with nearly 23 million streams on Spotify to date. Now, the “Flashbacks” singer has developed an incredibly dedicated fanbase that continues to grow exponentially as he releases new music. In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, Zach Hood opens up about “Isabelle,” dream collaborations and what fans can look forward to in the near future.
Your single “Isabelle” completely blew up! What can you tell me about that track and the response you have received from so many fans and listeners?
I met this girl at a party. We hung out for the weekend. We were just like vibing and stuff…driving around [and] having a good time. Then I went back into the studio. My manager Johnny and the song’s producer, Jayden Seeley, they were both like, ‘bro, we should write a song about that.’ They ended up talking me into it. Long story short, that song turned into Isabelle, which is insane.
Was her name actually Isabelle or was that just a filler name? Do you two still talk?
Her name was Isabelle. I showed her after [I made it] and she loved it. Two weeks later, she moved to Spain and then we just didn’t ever like really speak again.
That song has over 60 million streams on Spotify alone! Is it ever surreal to see those numbers and stats on streaming platforms?
“Isabelle” was my second song that I ever released and for it to do what it did, I’m new to everything so I didn’t know what was going on. I feel like like now that I’m sitting here and looking at the numbers, that’s a lot of people. Now, I’m [just] taking it in. It’s wild. It’s insane!
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
This is very hard because a lot of people don’t know this, but I listen to a lot of rap. I listen to everything! I would definitely say Bruno Mars. Post Malone too…he’s insane. I really like Lauren Spencer Smith. She’s killing it right now too and her voice is incredible. Kid Laroi is also killing it. Shawn Mendes is also a really big inspiration for me. Chelsea Cutler too! I could literally go on for ever.
Can fans look forward to a full-length project coming soon?
We’re working on a lot of new music. Hopefully, an EP will be out by the end of this year.
What other goals do you have for 2022?
Definitely doing more shows! Also, to make Los Angeles feel more like home, to meet new people, and [to] collaborate. And to keep making music!
