Chinese-South Korean boy group Exo may have only started their active status in 2011, but they’ve made more impact than many other artists in the world. They’ve continuously been ranked as high powerful celebrities and have even been listed as “one of the top ten pop culture leaders” of the world.
Their debut album, XOXO made an immediate response on the charts and quickly sold over 1 million copies in Korea alone. Overall, it became Korea’s best selling album in 12 years. When it was released back in 2013, it became prized as the “best-selling album of the year in the K-pop industry”.
While they initially did debut first with EP Mama (April 9, 2012), XOXO became the first piece that propelled them to international stardom. Second studio album, Exodus (released in 2015) even further promoted them to more success.
The album received acclaim for having a tighter mix of the R&B and dance genres.
What’s even more beautiful to see is how they’ve managed to make a global overseas assault on worldwide charts as it can be hard for outer groups trying to breakthrough touch markets such as the U.S. and U.K.
Nonetheless, their Overdose EP was able to chart on the actual Billboard 200 charts peaking at number 129 and also charting SECOND on the U.S. Billboard World Albums chart. Thus making them the “highest charting Korean male group act on the Billboard 200”.
Although the group has been with met with disputes (members leaving), they will continue to carry on and represent Korea as musical heroes for many.
The groups’ hard work shows that (as cliche as it may sound) anything is possible. If you believe in a dream, then you can believe it WILL come true.
