The Fast & Furious franchise continues with Hobbs & Shaw, a spinoff starring two popular characters in the F&F cinematic universe, Luke Hobbs played by Dwayne Johnson and Deckard Shaw played by Jason Statham.
Fans have previously seen the two characters face off in 2015’s Fast & Furious 7. With Hobbs being a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service and Shaw being a former British military elite operative, the two have never been on good terms, often fighting and bad mouthing each other any chance they get.
With the new film, Hobbs and Shaw are forced to become allies to take down the mysterious figure “Brixton” played by The Wire‘s Idris Elba.
Unlike their characters, however, Johnson and Statham have built quite a friendship behind-the-scenes. During the filming for the movie, Statham told Entertainment Weekly that he had “a ball” working with Johnson.
“It’s definitely become much funnier than we intended for it to be, I think. It’s just two guys screwing around, making the most of it.”
That isn’t surprising since both actors have starred in action films. Jason Statham is known for his roles in The Transporter, The Italian Job, The Expendables, and more, while Dwayne Johnson has starred in films such as San Andreas, Skyscraper, and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
We can’t wait to see the stars in Hobbs & Shaw in cinemas August 2nd 2019.
