The Fate of the Furious had the largest worldwide opening weekend in history.
The Universal Pictures film, starring Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez and more, reeled in a total of $100.2 million after debuting in theaters on Friday. The latest in the franchise also made $432.2 million overseas for a $532.5 million global gross.
Jurassic World previously held the title for biggest international release with $316.7 million.
“These movies translate perfectly into any culture,” Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at ComScore told Variety. Fast cars, outrageous stunts — that’s the international language for something everybody loves.”
Following the box office hit was animated flick Boss Baby with $15.5 million and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, bringing in $15.5 million.
