Written by FIIZ, themselves, whilst it was produced by Sietse Fase, “Lungs” is an awesome electro-pop song with alternative vibes running throughout that give a poignant and punchy-rhythm energy. Sensual from the get-go, FIIZ brings a refreshing aesthetic to this style of music whilst also showcasing infatuation in a positive light. Lyrically, the song captures what it is like to not only fall for someone but to have the feeling that your heart is going to burst because you’re full of desire for this new person in your life. Matching the theme of the lyrics, FIIZ brings a besotted beat that progresses through intricate layers with a pulsating bassline, an unforgivable breathtaking drop, and rich rhythmic elements, which all infuse to portray that smitten and love-struck feeling. “Lungs” is just one of those highly relatable songs that you can easily connect with and it literally takes you back to that one moment in your life when you really hopelessly fell for someone upon that very first kiss.
“‘Lungs’ is about what it feels like to be with a woman for the first time and how overwhelming and powerful that can feel,” Fiona says. “It captures that desire with someone new to just continue to kiss them, and completely ignore the need to breathe.”
Continuing on, FIIZ says about “Lungs”: “From a joint perspective, we were really interested in creating a song that celebrated consent. There are so many love songs and lust songs out there, but not a lot of them touch on the idea that there is a mutual communication about intimacy that comes with such ease and fun.”
