Indie-pop artist FINNEAS treats fans to a slight break from the electronic productions he’s created with his younger sister, Billie Eilish, in his recent release, “Break My Heart Again.”
Directed by New York filmmaker Sam Bennett, the music video creatively puts a spin on the idea of meeting someone after experiencing heartbreak and fitting the lyrics perfectly. The camera turns him around as he sings to the broken-hearted, somber lyrics, “So go ahead and break my heart again/ Leave me wondering/ why the hell I ever let you in/Are you the definition of insanity?/Or am I?/Oh, it must be nice/To love someone/Who lets you break them twice.”
As the song continues, the tugging and pulling of the shirt portray the difficulty of letting go of something that’s very special. The stripped back piano accompanies O’Connell’s voice beautifully, which also includes the familiar sounds of typing and sending messages in the background.
“Break My Heart Again” follows the release of “Claudia,” a straightforward reflection of the singer’s relationship with YouTuber Claudia Sulewski. The funky tune chronicles the first night they met through his recurrent vulnerable and sincere lyrics, which was finished over the following two days.
If you’d like to see him perform live, FINNEAS joined Billie Eilish at Coachella this April and will be her opening act this summer at the PNE Amphitheatre in Vancouver on June 1.
