One of Disney’s biggest movies of all time has just become Broadway’s latest play adaptation.
Stagecraft alums Patti Murin and Caissie Levy will star as sister duo Elsa and Anna in Disney Theatrical Production’s Frozen. The upcoming animated-film-turned-musical is slated to open at St. James Theatre in New York next spring, following a tryout to take place this August in Denver.
Murin’s most notable credits include roles in Lysistrata Jones and Xanadu. Levy appeared in Ghost, Wicked and the revival of 2014’s Les Miserables.
Rounding out the cast are Jelani Alladin as Kristoff, Greg Hildreth as Olaf, John Riddle as Hans and Robert Creighton as the Duke of Weselton.
Songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who were responsible for crafting music for the blockbuster film, will work on the stage show. Jennifer Lee, co-director and screenwriter of the 2013 movie is also confirmed to write the story.
Frozen originally starred Idina Menzel as Elsa and Kristen Bell as Anna. The animated feature film grossed $1.276 billion for Walt Disney Animation Studios and took home two Academy Awards, earning the title of Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Let It Go.”
