The Winner of the Great British Bake Off 2015, Nadiya Hussain, has announced that she is set to make the Birthday Cake for none other than Queen Elizabeth.
During her time on the show Nadiya had a few bad weeks, but managed to pull it back in time to be crowned champion at the final, and on top of making some amazing cakes has also made a fan out of the Queen, who is approaching her 90th birthday.
Nadiya broke the news on daily panel show Loose Women, on which she is an occasional panellist, much to the delight of her co-hosts. Though she has had to keep it a secret in the weeks since she was asked to bake the cake, she also took the opportunity to share a little bit about what kind of cake she would bake for the Queen.
“I’m making an orange drizzle with orange curd and orange buttercream and fondant. I have to give it to her on Thursday, myself. I’m so nervous I can’t even look at the oven right now.”
Baking an Orange drizzle cake with orange curd and orange buttercream and fondant for the Queen of the United Kingdom on her 90th Birthday AND delivering it to her yourself? We don’t know why you’re nervous, Nadiya, it sounds like a piece of cake.
Nadiya was also keen to share the reaction her children had to the news. “When I told the kids, the boys were great at keeping it a secret. I told my daughter and she said, ‘Oh Mary Berry? You’ve made lots of cakes for Mary Berry.”
We understand the confusion – Mary Berry is a Queen in our eyes, too.
