On Christmas Day 2016, music lovers across the world were devastated by the news of George Michael’s passing. A music icon, an LGBTQ trailblazer and always unapologetically himself, George’s legacy lives on through his incredible discography, which was recently given a new addition thanks to Nile Rodgers.
Back in the late 80’s, George released ‘Fantasy’ as a B-side track. As one of his favourite songs, he set out to give the song the attention it deserves. In early 2016 he teamed up with Nile to rework the song, however, George passed away before its release. A few weeks ago, ‘Fantasy’ was finally unveiled to the world, delighting George’s legion of fans across the globe.
To further celebrate ‘Fantasy’, a nostalgic music video has been released. Cleverly combining clips from videos such as ‘Faith’ and ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’, the video is a perfect trip down memory lane, reminding us all why George was such an iconic and legendary artist.
Watch the video for ‘Fantasy’ below.
The music video follows on from the incredible George Michael: Freedom film, which aired on Channel 4 earlier this week. The documentary tells the story of the making of Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1., and features contributions from the likes of Sir Elton John, Liam Gallagher, and Kate Moss. George was putting the final touches to the film just a few days before he passed, making it his final work.
Tomorrow sees the release of Listen Without Prejudice/MTV Unplugged, a reissue of George’s iconic album, Listen Without Prejudice Vol.1 along with a remastered version of his 1996 performance on MTV Unplugged. The album is available to pre-order here.
