Girls Aloud stars Cheryl, Kimberley, Nadine and Nicola have this week announced they are to join forces to organise a series of charity events throughout the course of the year, to raise money for breast cancer research in memory of the life of their fellow bandmate Sarah Harding.
As well as sharing plans to host an industry-led gala dinner later in the year, the girls are teaming up with Cancer Research UK for a special ‘Race for Life for Sarah’ 5k event, which will raise money for vital breast cancer research in-keeping with Harding’s wishes of wanting to help improve survival for people with cancer.
Set to take place on Sunday, July 24th at Race For Life in Hyde Park, London, ‘Race for Life for Sarah’ will see Cheryl, Nadine and Nicola descend on the capital to take part in the non-competitive event, where participants can run, walk or jog the 5k route. For those like Kimberley, who are unable to be in London on the day, plans are in place for people to take part by doing a Race For Life at Home for Sarah on July 24th, at a time convenient to them.
In what promises to be a super special day, the ladies hope the event will provide the opportunity for those who knew, loved and supported Sarah to come together to remember her for the incredible woman she was.
Speaking to fans on Instagram, Cheryl said a video post: “Around this time last year when Sarah was really sick we were all desperately trying to find ways to help her, comfort her, you feel so helpless in times like that and one of the only things she really wanted was a gala dinner. While that’s underway we felt like we could be doing more and we decided to do a Race for Life for Sarah at Hyde Park on the 24th of July and I know so many of you wanted to support her, you were helping her all the way through her illness and we’d really love it if you could join us there. Come, walk with us for 5 miles, people are doing it virtually too. We hope to see you there.”
‘Race for Life for Sarah’ is part of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life event series, in partnership with Tesco. Launched back in 1994, Race for Life has seen over 10 million people take part and raised over £920m for the charity’s life-saving work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all types of cancer.
