Before we reveal the news to all you Gossip Girl lovers out there, you may want to take a seat because this is going to knock you off your feet for sure!
There are many reasons as to why we love Gossip Girl, however, one couple in particular had a place in everybody’s heart, breaking it in to two and making it whole again. It was an extreme rollercoaster of emotions and that couple was Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf.
The Upper East Side held so much drama and there was never once a boring day in the life of these New Yorkers we had grown to love. Chuck and Blair’s romance was always the centre of the show, starting from season three anyway, and had us all crying over and over again because of how strong their love was for each other, but also because of the many obstacles in their way to actually be together! Five years on and they are still one of the most talked about couples on social media, complete relationship goals now and forever!
But did you know… Chuck and Blair actually weren’t meant to be?! Our hearts are breaking too!
Gossip Girl co-creater/writer Josh Schwartz revealed the news (that probably should have been taken to his grave) about the origin of Gossip Girl’s ultimate pairing.
“Chuck came in to the show as the villain. But it’s one of those great, fun things about making a television series – it’s an evolving, living, breathing thing, and things can easily change on a whim.”
Once the production team saw the chemistry between Leighton Meester (Blair) and Ed Westwick (Chuck), it was only right to put the romance in there. It makes total sense after all, both characters are major schemers and had compelling dark sides that could only make them the perfect pairing. After making the choice of Chair, they made the decision that Chuck and Blair would be forever, but what’s Gossip Girl without constant drama and heartbreak? Chuck sold Blair to get his hotel back, Chuck’s father passed away and then all of a sudden ‘resurrected’, Blair married a prince and after getting divorced she moved to Daniel Humphrey, then along came their career paths and only wanting to be together when they both reached the success they wanted by themselves. There never was a moment where Chuck and Blair could truly be with each other.
“That love story between those two characters was always one of the overarching stories of the whole show, and we knew that. As far as we pushed them, we always had to be able to find a way to bring them back together.”
Bringing it back to Leighton and Ed’s chemistry on set, Ed was asked a question back in 2012 about how he made his character Chuck look so in love with Blair and he simply said that he was in love with Leighton and that made it so much easier for him. Oh, our hearts are overfilled with love for Chuck and Blair right now! We love Leighton and Adam Brody but what we would do if we could’ve had little Leighton and Ed babies running about!
How are you feeling about this life changing news? We’re definitely going to be appreciating Chair a whole lot more now we know they wasn’t always in the works for Gossip Girl! @CelebMix.
