There has been plentiful of new releases this week, but one that stands out to us is Guy Sebastian’s awesome track that is titled “Choir”. He’s definitely been a rising international star hailing from Australia and we’ve been excited to watch his career soar in the last few years. The release of this song follows up his previous track, “Before I Go”.
Guy Sebastian is a household name in Australia having gone on to have enormous success after winning Australian Idol in 2003. His success has seen him release a total of eight studio albums all of which have entered the top ten of the Australian ARIA album charts, and 35 singles. He has seven Australian number ones to his name including “Battle Scars” which was a collaboration with Lupe Fiasco that even charted on the US Billboard Charts. His other songs that have charted internationally include “Like A Drum”, “Mama Ain’t Proud” which featured 2 Chainz, and his most recent track “Before I Go”, as well as “Tonight Again” which was the song he sang when he represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 – their very first time competing in the world-renowned music competition – where he came fifth with a total of 196 points. His career has been lengthy, although international success has not come easy for Guy Sebastian. Aside from his music career, he has been a judge on the Australian version of The X Factor in the years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2016. Recently, he can be seen as a coach on the Australian version of The Voice, which has just started its eighth season and this is the first time he has been a coach on The Voice where he is joined by legendary coach, Delta Goodrem, as well as Kelly Rowland and Boy George. His latest album, Conscious, was released in 2017 and he is apparently working on his ninth studio album, with “Before I Go” and this latest single “Choir” expected to appear on the said album.
This brand new song marks Guy Sebastian’s first 2019 release and has been written by Guy Sebastian, Trevor Brown, and Zaire Koalo, whilst it has been produced by M-Phazes. It’s an incredible song that celebrates the life of one of his friends who sadly passed away but instead of grieving, Guy Sebastian wanted to write something uplifting in honour of his friend.
“I’m in a place with my music now where I just want to make soulful music that resonates and moves people”, he says in a press release. “And I’m happy this song will bring some healing to people who have lost others.”
Alongside the release of the single, Guy Sebastian dropped a “behind the track” video about the song “Choir”. The official music video for the song is expected to be released in the coming weeks. In the comments of the video below, Guy Sebastian went on to say, “I wrote this as a reminder to not let this crazy world stop us from being there for one another. We just don’t know what the people around us are going through, so let’s spread as much love as we can. It’s a bit of a special one to me.”

This song becomes even more beautiful now that we’ve learnt of the backstory of where this song came from. It’s a different take than one we’re used to when a song is dedicated to someone – as mentioned by Guy Sebastian as he had initially written a ballad about his friend, Luke Liang – yet this song is uplifting and inspiring with one catchy melody. It simply is a wonderful track to honour his friend and ‘musical right-hand man’.
Unexpectedly, Guy Sebastian’s vocals are on point throughout. His voice complements the tuneful tone of the song and clearly sings every single lyric. This is one of those tracks for everyone who has lost someone in this world and you can hear the respect and his love for Luke Liang so much so that you can also feel how much he misses him. This song and backstory is sure to bring tears to your eyes.
“Choir” is available to download and stream right now, with the official video expected to be dropped in the coming weeks. His upcoming ninth studio album is on its way.
