Hailee is one of the top celebrities to look out for! She started as an actress starring in hit movies, such as Pitch Perfect, before releasing her own music with her single “Love Myself” that topped the charts. Now, Hailee graces the latest cover of Seventeen Magazine.
In her Seventeen interview, she revealed that her life wasn’t so glamourous before she hit fame. She opens up about the time she was bullied in school. She said that everyday she started her day with threats from classmates. “There was a period of time where every morning at 7:02, I’d get a prank phone call at my house.” They would say things like, “Come to school now. We’re going to kick your butt.” To avoid seeing her bullies, she entered her school through the back.
However, this wasn’t enough to stop the bullying from happening. She states, “I’d come back to my desk and have hand sanitizer all over my books and in my water bottle. People would come by and slam my locker shut when I was still putting my books in it.” Hailee felt as if she were in a movie with mean girls.
Despite everything she went through, Hailee remains strong and hopeful. She took her negative experiences in the past and used it to relate to her character in her new film, The Edge of Seventeen. Hailee plays an awkward teenager named Nadine, who has to come to terms with her older brother and best friend being in a relationship. The movie is a coming-of-age film.
Hailee says she can definitely relate to Nadine, because like her, she has had times when everything “felt like it was the absolute end of the world.” She adds that both her character and herself have moments where they question themselves and who they are as they go through life.
Regarding her future, Hailee says that she dreams of releasing the best first album she can possibley make. She states, “I want to get to a level where I can headline my own arena tour. I know that I can make it happen. It’s just the beginning. I see the future being really big.”
