Hailee Steinfield, best known for her roles in True Grit (2010) and Pitch Perfect 2 (2015), dropped her debut single last Friday. The young actress has now added “singer,” to her long list of accomplishments. The single, titled “Love Myself,” is projected to be the first song off of Steinfield’s upcoming debut studio album. The Pitch Perfect 2 star took to Twitter to express her excitement with the song’s premiere, writing ‘This is INSANE.’
The song itself starts off slow, eventually building up to a fast speed chorus where Steinfield shouts out, “I love me!” before going on to sing that she doesn’t need anybody else. With lyrics like, “I know how to scream my own name,” the song highlights self-empowerment and the idea that one does not need a romantic relationship in order to feel special and important. We can do it all on our own.
The single is perfect for those times when you’re dancing around your room alone or road tripping with friends. The chorus can be shouted from rooftops and car windows. Crushing the notion that one needs a significant other in order to be happy and confident, “Love Myself,” is a song for all of us who are perfectly content riding solo.
