You may all know John Green, author of iconic novels such as; Looking For Alaska, Paper Towns and The Fault In Our Stars. Well, it seems writing is a talent in the family, as his younger brother Hank Green, has recently announced his debut novel with an extremely Green-esque title ‘An Absolutely Remarkable Thing’.
Whilst John’s books are written more for young people, Hank focuses on more of an adult audience featuring strong language and mature themes, taking inspiration from the situations Hank has wrestled about with in his own life such as; internet fame and the anxiety it can bring.
“It’s a story I’ve wanted to tell for a long time that was seeded by a lot of my personal experiences, but it’s April’s story, and it’s been a pleasure watching her live her absolutely remarkable life.”
His debut novel centres around a New York art student, April May, who is thrust in to fame when she makes a video with a giant robot sculpture. She soon finds that more statues like it are popping up all over the world in dozens of cities, and people are struggling to understand where the figures came from and what they mean.
Hank started toying around with the idea over writing a novel since his college days and 6 years ago he started working on ‘An Absolutely Remarkable Thing‘ after having a strange dream that he realised had the elements to become a mystery plot. Well, we wish we could remember our dreams enough to write a successful novel like Hank’s is sure to be! He first envisioned his book as a graphic novel, then soon realised he had outlined a novel that combined elements of science fiction and mystery.
Dutton, a Penguin Random House imprint, signed the novel last month as part of a two book deal. Although this is Hank’s debut novel, he is sure to have more knowledge with the publishing world than most debut authors, especially because of watching his brother’s literary career take off. He will also be joining John this fall on his book tour for the highly anticipated YA novel ‘Turtles All The Way Down‘, giving him plenty more experience for when he sets off on his own book tour!
