Joseph Adam Jonas, more commonly known as the wonderful Joe Jonas, was born on August 15 1989, making today his 27th birthday.
He first came to our attention as one third of the Jonas Brothers. The band rose to global fame with hits including ‘SOS’, ‘Burnin’ Up’ and ‘Lovebug’. They were also much loved Disney stars, taking lead roles in the Camp Rock movies as well as starring in their own TV series. Later on, Joe went on to pursue a solo career, with his album Fastlife reaching number 15 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Now, he’s set for world domination as one fourth of DNCE. They recently toured with Selena Gomez on her Revival tour, performing across America, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Their debut single ‘Cake By The Ocean’ continues to impact on the charts globally, and we can expect their album later this year.
To celebrate Joe’s birthday, we’re going to take a trip down memory lane, by throwing it back to some of his best bits from the Jonas Brothers, Camp Rock, his solo career and DNCE.
Mandy
Throwing it back to 2005, when the Jonas Brothers released ‘Mandy’. It came with a three-part music video, giving us our first glimpse of the adorable brothers. We just can’t get over how young Joe, Nick and Kevin look! We bet that when they filmed the video, they never would have imagined the success they would later go on to achieve.
Hold On
Styling it out in a white blazer, Joe took the lead during this catchy track. He rocks out with his brothers during the song, perfecting his stage performance which we’ve grown to love over the years. We’re also forever living for the way Joe sings the words ‘hold on’.
SOS
‘SOS’ is an iconic Jonas Brothers song and probably one of their most well known. Joe melted plenty of hearts in that grey suit of his and we felt a bit sorry for him in the video when he was palmed off by a girl for Rico from Hannah Montana!
Burnin’ Up
From the moment Joe opens the song with “I’m hot, you’re cold”, we were sold. He also makes us laugh as his alter ego Rick Lava during the video – talk about moustache goals. ‘Burnin’ Up’ is one of our favourite JoBros songs for sure, and it’s made even better when Big Rob steals the show with his rap.
Gotta Find You
In 2008, the Jonas Brothers starred in Disney’s Camp Rock alongside Demi Lovato (Mitchie). Joe played Shane Grey and subsequently sent hearts fluttering with the gorgeous ballad ‘Gotta Find You’. We all wanted to be the girl he needed to find so desperately!
This Is Me
During the Final Jam performance, Shane realises that Mitchie is the girl he’s been looking for. Cue one of the most iconic moments from Camp Rock, and a duet that’ll always have a special place in our hearts. The chemistry between Joe and Demi gives us goosebumps to this day.
Lovebug
Back to the Jonas Brothers, who took a step back in time for the ‘Lovebug’ music video. It starts as a laid-back song before kicking into the JoBros we know and love. Listen out for Joe’s insane high note later on in the track!
Paranoid
‘Paranoid’ was the lead single from the Jonas Brothers’ fourth and final album. We love the video because we get to see numerous Kevin clones, Nick cruising in a car and Joe beat off some wrestlers!
Wouldn’t Change a Thing
Camp Rock 2 gave us another Joe and Demi / Shane and Mitchie song, which continues to give us all the feels to this day. It’s one of those ‘sing at the top of your lungs’ dramatic songs, and the characters realise that despite their faults, they wouldn’t change a thing about each other.
See No More
Remember that time Joe Jonas went solo? In all honesty, this period in history deserved far more recognition than what it received. ‘See No More’ had all the ingredients to be a smash hit and we’re kinda disappointed that it didn’t reach its full potential. Five years on and that chorus is still ingrained in our heads. Altogether now…..”I don’t wanna wait for you…”
Just In Love
As much as we loved Joe’s solo career, we’re ashamed to admit that we did forgot about ‘Just In Love’. It’s an R’n’B bop though, and let’s be honest, we would sell our souls to be Joe’s love interest in the video!
Pom Poms
‘Pom Poms’ is an underrated bop which was intended as the first track from the Jonas Brothers’ fifth album. Sadly, this album never came to fruition, with the brothers announcing their band split a few months later.
First Time
On June 25, 2013, ‘First Time’ was unveiled. The song was very different from the Jonas Brothers’ usual style but it’s a great track nonetheless. However, it’ll always be a sad song for us as it marked the last single they released as a band.
Cake By The Ocean
Fast forward to 2015, and Joe made a welcome return to the charts as part of our new favourite band, DNCE. Made up of Joe, Cole Whittle, JinJoo Lee and Jack Lawless, DNCE proved to be the exciting arrival that we needed in our lives. Their debut offering ‘Cake By The Ocean’ became a global phenomenon and is still riding high in the charts across the world today.
Toothbrush
DNCE’s latest track is ‘Toothbrush’, which also features on their SWAAY EP. This fun song has a catchy hook and gives us video girl envy all over again (let us be Ashley Graham please). We’re pretty sure that this song will allow DNCE to continue their quest for world domination!
