Several of the biggest names in music flocked to Inglewood, California last night for the iHeartRadio Music Awards. Check out the biggest winners of the night below, in no particular order.
Taylor Swift
Unsurprisingly enough, Taylor walked away the biggest winner of the night. Tied with The Weeknd for seven awards, Taylor took home five awards.
In fact, she won the first award of the night, Female Artist of the Year, presented by country music superstar Brad Paisley. Taylor was then presented with the first ever Best Tour award by friend and fellow pop music sensation Justin Timberlake. Justin gave her a touching tribute, accompanied by on-screen video footage of her groundbreaking tour.
In her acceptance speech, Taylor thanked her friends and fans. What surprised us all though was the fact that Taylor publicly thanked her boyfriend (Adam Wiles, better known by his stage name Calvin Harris), something she has never done. Taylor’s exact words to her beau were as follows:
“For the first time, I had the most amazing person to come home to when the spotlight went out and when the crowds were gone, so I want to thank my boyfriend Adam for that.”
In addition, Taylor also won the awards for the Most Thumbed Up Artist of the Year, Most Meme-able Moment, and Album of the Year.
Justin Bieber
Coming as no surprise, Justin had an exceptionally great night at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. For starters, he opened the show, putting together a medley of two of the biggest songs from his latest album, Love Yourself and Company. Looking like a performance from a concert on his Purpose World Tour, Justin got the crowd pumped up.
He took home the awards for Male Artist of the Year, Dance Song of the Year for Where R Ü Now with Skrillex and Diplo, and Best Fan Army for his Beliebers. During his acceptance for MAOTY, he thanked his manager, family at home, his fans, and God. Ending his speech, he said:
“I’ve experienced some tough times; I think all of us do, but it’s about our growth and learning.”
U2
One of the best rock bands of all time, U2 were amongst the biggest winners of the night. They were presented with the Innovator Award by Pharrell, who was a recent recipient of the Award.
The Irish rock band were honored with a video tribute, which highlighted just a few of their many notable moments over the past few decades. They were also praised for their charitable efforts, specifically their involvement with Product RED. Product RED, run by Bono and Bobby Shriver, fights to bring awareness to and ultimately eliminate HIV/AIDS in Africa.
Accepted by the Edge and Bono, they dedicated their award to artists from around the world also innovating and received a standing ovation from the star-studded crowd.
Selena Gomez
Although she only won one award, it was a big one. Selena Gomez took home the award for Biggest Triple Threat, honoring her amazing abilities in singing, acting, and dancing. Presented with the award by Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz, Selena politely thanked her fans for always listening.
Adele
Currently on tour in London, England, Adele was unable to attend the show. She did, however, win the award for Song of the Year for Hello, and rightfully so. The song, which marked Adele’s return to music after a four-year hiatus, broke countless records and flew to the top of the charts. Introduced by Trey Songz and accepting her award via video, Adele thanked everyone who voted for her before kissing her award and signing off.
Drake
Unfortunately for us Drake fangirls, the rapper wasn’t in attendance. That doesn’t come as a surprise though, as he is known for missing award shows. Despite his absence, Drake did indeed win big. With five nominations in three categories, Drake won Hip Hop Artist of the Year and Hip Hop Song of the Year for his hit single Hotline Bling.
