Dusky Grey are a duo from Wales. They recently released their single ‘One Night’ on September 28th and have been supporting Emma Blackery on her tour this October. The duo are looking forward to their own debut headline tour in November, including a date at London’s Camden Assembely. The dates for the tour are as follows:
November
9th – Liverpool, East Village Artist Club (Loft)
11th – Glasgow, Attic
12th – Llandudno – Theatre Colwyn
17th – London, Camden Assembly
We recently had the chance to speak to Dusky Grey about their forthcoming tour, ‘One Night’ and much more. Check out what they had to say below.
Why did you want to enter the music industry as a duo?
You know what – the beginning of us was so weird. We had been doing our own thing for so long and then as soon as we met and wrote together it all just fell into place. So it wasn’t really a decision that we made it just felt like it was supposed to happen this way. Luckily we’re best friends!
When you were both children what did you want to do when you grew up? And did you ever dream of being in the music industry?
It’s funny, we both grew up loving music and doing music but you never really think it’s a possibility until it happens. Geth wanted to be a football player!
Do you remember the first ever gig you went to?
Catty – Mine was Girls Aloud. I still love them, I answer this with pride.
Geth – there was probably a few before this but my clearest gig memory is actually Rudimental at Wakestock. Loved them then, love them now.
How did you come up with the duo name ‘Dusky Grey’?
Geth – It’s actually my name in English. We’re Welsh so Gethin roughly translates to Dusky and my middle name “Llwyd” is the colour Grey.
What inspired you to write your new single ‘One Night’?
One Night was actually the quickest song we’ve ever written. We wrote it with Pete Hammerton and Dani Senior, Pete was playing the guitar and we had the entire topline done in a voice note that’s a minute and a half long! Usually when things come so quick you begin to question it but it just felt so right so the inspiration came from just having four of us vibing in a room. Lyrically it was inspired by that moment we all have where we give up something good because we think we can get better but it doesn’t quite go to plan.
Outside of song writing what do you like to do in your free time?
At the moment we are lucky enough to be travelling to lots of new places – so we love having any time off we get to explore the different areas and culture. Especially like finding good food recommendations ;)
How does it feel to hear your songs being played on the radio?
It’s surreal. We feel so lucky to be getting plays and hope it continues!
Out of all the gigs you have played what is your favourite place?
We’ve actually only just started doing live shows, but we’re supporting Emma Blackerry around the UK right now and the first show in Manchester was incredible. Everyone was SO nice to us and we got to meet some supporters afterwards which is just the best thing ever.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. We’re all mates. You can’t do music without the people who want to listen to it. They’re so sweet and give us the confidence to do what we do when they sing our songs back to us. They really are everything.
What is the most memorable thing a fan has done for you both?
One fan in particular (you know who you are) comes to every single show. We’re supporting Emma around the UK and doing a short headline show around the UK in November and she isn’t missing a date – really doing this tour with us. It’s incredible, we keep saying thank you but it will never be enough. Also another fan named their two kittens after us (Catty & Geth) the other day – that was pretty cool.
What are your plans for the future?
We just want to do as well as we possibly can and never stop progressing. We really aren’t good at much else so we need this to work out! ;)
We’re buzzed for our first headline tour this November so we’re going to hop into rehearsals for that and have some fun!
