CelebMix got a chance to catch up with the duo to discuss about their journey so far, their new single, and much more. Check out the complete interview below:
M-22 are no stranger to a music lover. We would like to know a bit about your musical journey. How did music happen to you guys and how has the journey been so far?
We both started DJ’ing from a young age but that quickly turned into production and songwriting as well. The journey has been amazing so far as we have both been able to write and produce for great artists. The magic truly started for us when we created M-22 as that is our passion.
You have collaborated with some major artists and your work too have been featured at shows. How do you see yourself placed in the music industry (in terms of opportunities)?
It has been amazing collaborating with so many great artists such as Tiesto , Post Malone , Clean Bandit & Anne Marie to name a few. We feel confident enough in our music to believe that we can also become a well-established act ourselves.
Like any popular genre, electronic music too has found its firm ground in the industry. What do you think has led to genre’s massive popularity and acceptance in the mainstream industry?
Honestly we think it’s just down to great music. The level keeps going up and up and it’s making everyone up their game which is resulting in better music.
To a novice who is yet to discover your songs, how would you describe your music and sound?
We love melody , that’s really important for us and I think our sound comes through us writing are own stuff and just doing what we believe feels right.
Do you have any musical influences?
It’s always hard to single out artists that influence us as we love all kinds of music and artists but we have both always loved House Music.
We have listened to your songs including Good to be Loved, Somewhere New, Inspiration, and others. With every single, a new narrative has been put forth. Even in terms of sound, we have seen a transformation.
How do you perceive the evolution of your music over the years? Is there anything that you would like to experiment with in the near future?
We have experimented over the years with our sound but over the past 6-12 months we have for sure found a colour with our songwriting & production and we are keen to keep that going and evolving that musical journey.
We would also like to know about the creative process that you follow to create these amazing tracks.
Honestly that can change every time. Sometimes it starts with a vocal melody or it can start with a set of chords. We just go with the initial inspiration at that time.
Congratulations on “How Does It Feel”. Please tell our readers a bit about the track.
Thank you :-) We wrote this song over 2 years ago and we knew right away it had something special and this was the perfect time for all you guys to hear it. We got the hook and lyric “ How Does It Feel “ pretty quick and that was written over the main pulsing synth sound you still hear today. We got all the elements pretty much in that session & then it was just the case of making it sound perfect.
Compared to “First Time”, the song is one notch higher in terms of energy but what really drew us to the single was the lyrics. What inspired you to create this track?
We wanted to capture a classic house feeling with uplifting lyrics that sends an empowering and positive message with a rich sounding production and a powerful soulful vocal, we feel like we have captured what we set out to achieve.
Would you like to share with us your future projects or endeavours?
We have just finished a writing camp in Ibiza and we have lots of new music to come and we are very very excited about it all and we can’t wait to share it with you :-)
