Cambio Sun are vocalist, guitarist and composer Charlie Tait and percussionist John Cleworth, a duo born out of a childhood friendship. They are one of Australia-via-London’s most revered exciting young duos and are set to release their debut album Animal Sense this year.
Cambio Sun began as Tait’s brainchild from the confines of his home. The twenty-year-old shared his first composition ‘Intuition’ in 2013, creating a small storm on Majestic Casual which represents the best of electronic music, experimental, hip-hop, indie, pop and many more. The track gained over 400,000 plays.
Despite still being at school, Tait followed up the success of ‘Intuition’ with a six-track experimental EP called Retisent, a glitchy falsetto take on alternative electronic soundscapes, drawing comparisons to Shlohmo, Ben Khan, Bon Iver and Four Tet. One of the EP tracks, ‘Mad As they Come’, has been streamed over 410,000 times on SoundCloud.
Tait joined forces with Cleworth and the duo moved from Sydney to London in order to refine their live sound. Their to-be-released album Animal Sense is the culmination of six months’ work and collaboration. With the sensibilities from Tait’s first solo EP allowed to mature, you can see what time and percussive skill has brought to Cambio Sun, giving their sound a deep texture and post-rock influence.
Before the album, however, comes the outstanding lead single ‘Maiden Voyage’ which sees Cambio Sun at their experimental best. Pushing their progressive, immersive sound into previously untouched areas, Cambio Sun are switching directions with free unpredictability. The duo’s dark, moody, off-kilter sound sits comfortably as a hybrid between Pink Floyd, James Blake, Tears For Fears and Alt-J, with layers building to a remarkable wall of crescendo.
The duo have garnered excellent feedback from numerous outlets.
