Jax Jones continues his run of stellar collaborations with his latest single ‘Play’, featuring Years & Years.
The radio-ready bop combines Jax’s signature infectious production with elements of garage, soul and house. The track is woven together by Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander’s distinct vocals, crooning “How long ’til you play me the song that will make me belong to you?” over an uplifting dance beat.
Speaking about ‘Play’, Jax said: “Olly’s got one of those unique voices – he commands your attention as soon as you hear him sing – he’s a compelling artist. We had a lot of fun writing this song together and it was great to collaborate with someone so down to earth and open to new ideas. After we had written the song I started building a track with a strong UK Garage influence, as well as my love of soul and house.”
Olly added, “Working with Jax was really fun and we just giggled the whole time and danced around. I wrote loads of ideas and then we picked the ones we liked and made the song out of it. I love dance music because it makes me feel invincible, but it has tension in the lyrics, so I tried to create a bit of that – like how long till you play me the damn song! I liked the idea of a track that could make you fall in love. You’re so obsessed with hearing it that it’s like you’ve been hypnotized – I wanna hear that song!”

‘Play’ is the latest in a string of huge releases from Jax Jones, following on from the likes of ‘Ring Ring’ featuring Mabel, ‘Instruction’ with Demi Lovato and Stefflon Don, and the gargantuan hit ‘You Don’t Know Me’ featuring Raye. The track is also the first new release from Years & Years after the success of their sophomore album Palo Santo.
Jax recently announced his biggest headline show to date, which will take place at the Roundhouse on April 6, 2019. Years & Years kicked off their Palo Santo tour in Glasgow last night (November 28), and will tour the world through until April.
