Earlier this month we told you about Jessie J releasing a fun and festive animated video for her take on Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town and now she’s released two more for Silent Night and original track This Christmas Day.
Taken from her Christmas album This Christmas Day, her version of the beautiful classic Silent Night sticks heavily to the slow, emotive original but with a Jessie J touch thrown in for good measure. We love the animated video for the track, telling the story of the song in a fun and incredibly memorable way. Jessie’s vocals both recorded and live are something to be admired singing this track as if it was written for her in mind. Christmas is a time of reflection and this track allows this to be the case with soothing vocals which is just what you need during such a manic time of the year.
On This Christmas Day only one original track features; title track This Christmas Day and it’s definitely quality over quantity on this album. Produced by Rodney Jerkins and mixed by Jaycen Joshua, Jessie has previously told of how special this track is to her and it’s clear to see why. Yet again another cute animated video brings the track to life showing a variety of scenarios where people are receiving gifts from important people in their lives. Lyrically this track is enough to make a tear be shed especially with choral vocals coming in towards the later part of the track. Singing of not being able to be with someone on Christmas day, because they’re in a better place ‘I’m thinking ‘bout the good times, wish you were here. I’m gonna celebrate, drinking your favourite, cheers’ but that you’re still thinking about them ‘I love you on this Christmas day and I miss you, yes every single day’. The emotive power within this track once again reminds us why Jessie J is one of our favourite artists, writing about something so incredibly important such as losing a love one but wanting to honour their memory is a challenging but here is done in a beautiful way.
With Christmas just days away now, Jessie J is helping us get even more into the spirit as we’ve had her first Christmas album on repeat for the last few weeks! The release features duets with Boyz II Men and Babyface and sees her covering some festive favourites including Jingle Bell Rock and Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree. The singer recently took her month-long R.O.S.E tour across the UK in support of her latest series of releases, to read about the great time we had at the Bournemouth show head here.
