Jessie J has confirmed that she will not be returning to The Voice UK or The Voice Australia this year, opting to take some time out to work on her next album instead.
The ‘Price Tag’ singer appeared on Live with Kelly in the U.S. on Wednesday, where she spoke about which direction her career is heading in. The pop-star confirmed that she would not be returning to The Voice franchise as she is ready to record her fourth studio album. After travelling between London, Sydney, New York and Los Angeles for the past few years, Jessie announced that she ‘feels good’ that she will not be working on the show anymore.
“I’m not going to be returning,” Jessie confirmed to host Kelly Ripa and guest host Keegan-Michael Kelly.
“It feels so good. I love doing the show. I’ve done four seasons. Two in the UK and two in Sydney but I just need to make another album.”
She added: “It’s really time-consuming and if I’m honest with you I get to the point where I’m in the chair and I just want to sing. ‘I want to tell you how to make it better, I want to coach you, but I want to make it a duet’, I’m ready to write another album.”.
The singer-songwriter was also on the show to promote her upcoming appearance in the newest Ice Age movie, Ice Age: Collision Course. Jessie explained how she likes to earn her roles and opportunities in everything that she does, stating: “I don’t ever want to be given anything without working for it. So I did an hour’s audition and tried to find a voice they liked,”.
“I don’t want to get it because of the music I’ve done, I want to get it because I deserve it. I’ve had so much fun doing this. That’s what made it so great, doing stuff that I’m not used to.” she said of being out of her comfort zone.
You can catch Jessie J in the new movie Ice Age: Collision Course, out now in the UK and on July 22nd in the U.S.
