This week, DNCE released the flirty music video for their new song ‘Toothbrush’. The band’s front man Joe Jonas takes the lead in the video, alongside model Ashley Graham who plays his on-screen love interest. The pair recently spoke to Glamour Magazine about the video experience.
When choosing his love interest for the music video, Jonas confirmed that there was only one woman for the job. “To be honest, we really only had one girl in mind,” he told Glamour. “I just find Ashley Graham so beautiful.” Graham herself had no hesitations either, and was unable to turn down the offer. “How could I say no?” she said. We definitely approve of Jonas’ choice of leading lady and it’s great to see a fuller female figure being represented positively in the media.
The video features the pair getting very cosy – kissing, caressing and even salsa dancing, as well as some steamy bedroom scenes. The chemistry between the two is undeniable, so surely they must have already met before the day of filming? “We met in the trailer, and our first scene was in the bed,” Jonas revealed. “We hit it off, just walked right into it. This video was a dream come true.”
‘Toothbrush’ talks about taking a relationship to the next level, so Glamour also asked the pair for their opinion on when is the right time to leave a toothbrush behind.
“I think it’s a pretty big step,” Jonas said. “Leaving a sweatshirt is understandable, but a toothbrush is a statement. And that’s kind of why we wrote the song. If you really think about it, no one wants morning breath. And you’re obviously staying over quite a bit—I mean, no one has more than one toothbrush, right? I would say it’s gotta be a few visits before that conversation happens.”
“Only a few?” Graham questioned. “Leaving a toothbrush is a commitment, that’s like, we’ve already had the BF/GF discussion, we’re going in!”
“You should definitely have a conversation before you leave a toothbrush,” Jonas answered. “I’d be freaked out if you didn’t.”
“Yes, there’s definitely a discussion,” Graham concluded. “I think if a woman leaves a toothbrush at a guy’s house, she’s letting him know that he’s going to have to commit soon or there’s a problem.”
