Joe Jonas is the latest Rollacoaster cover star. In addition to looking seriously handsome in a series of swoon-worthy photos taken for the magazine, Joe also took the time to speak to Rollacoaster about everything from new DNCE music, to starring in Charli XCX’s music video for ‘Boys’. Check out what Joe had to say below.
Joe Jonas first rose to fame as one third of our favourite sibling boyband, Jonas Brothers. These days, we know him as the front man of DNCE whose debut single ‘Cake By The Ocean’ garnered incredible success.
In fact, the earworm song has been streamed over a million times, a feat which is new to Joe. “The world’s moving so fast that streaming wasn’t even a thing back when I was with my brothers, so I guess to accomplish something like that on my own, with something new, makes it more special,” he said.
Whilst we’ve been treated to an album’s worth of incredible songs from DNCE, we’re continuously craving more from the kooky four-piece. Speaking about when we can expect new music from the group, Joe said: “I’m not really 100% sure but if it’s up to me it’ll be sooner than later because I’m really loving the stuff that I’ve been working on and I’m excited for you all to hear it.”
Although there’s no release date for new music, it seems that Joe has been having a lot of fun creating songs in his studio. Speaking about his current studio set-up, he said: “I’m kind of taking advantage of this time that I do have at home and working with new songwriters and producers and really kind of developing myself in the studio and really just having a blast.”
Aside from working on new music, Joe has been busy with various other projects in his spare time. He recently made a cameo appearance in Charli XCX’s music video for ‘Boys’. The video, in which Joe is seen eating pancakes, features a number of our favourite celebrity men doing all the ‘sexy’ things girls usually have to do in a music video, essentially flipping the stereotype.
During an interview with Annie Mac, Charli revealed that the video concept came to her whilst listening to ‘Boys’ in the car. Joe was the first person she thought of when dreaming about the concept, and he was more than happy to take part. Speaking about the video, Joe said: “I think it’s overdue for something like this to happen, hopefully it will change things up a little bit.”
Additionally, Joe has been showcasing his arty side via the Instagram account, @cupofjoe. “I really do love art so to be able to share that (love of art) with the world and it be something genuine,” Joe said. “I thought it would be kind of exciting for me to showcase a side of me that people haven’t gotten to see yet or don’t see very often.”
