Justin Bieber and Adele claim the first number 1’s of 2016

Having dominated the charts at the latter end of 2015, Justin Bieber and Adele have claimed the first UK number one single and album of 2016!

Justin reclaimed the number one spot in the singles chart, after losing out on the Christmas number one last week to the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir. Having spent three weeks at the top spot with “Love Yourself”, last week Justin encouraged his fans to help the NHS Choir to claim the Christmas number one. However this week, Beliebers across the UK have been out in force to secure “Love Yourself” a fourth week at the top spot, making it the first UK number one of 2016.

Justin also continues to dominate the top five, with “Sorry” and “What Do You Mean” charting at number two and four respectively. This is a great start to the year for Justin, and after breaking numerous records at the end of 2015, we can only wonder if his reign will ever end!

Similarly, Adele continues to dominate the album chart, spending a sixth week at number one, meaning she claims the first chart topping album of 2016. There was a gap of 6000 sales between Adele’s 25 and her nearest rival, Elvis Presley’s If I Can Dream. 25 is the fastest two million-selling album in UK music history, and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Elsewhere, there were a lot of climbers in this week’s singles charts. Fleur East climbed eight spots to number six with Sax, whilst Little Mix jumped from 20 to 11, the highest chart position for Love Me Like You since it first charted 14 weeks ago. Shaun Mendes also rose up the charts to number 12 with Stitches.

Walk The Moon’s Shut Up & Dance, R City’s Locked Away, Little Mix’s Black Magic, One Direction’s Drag Me Down and Ariana Grande’s Focus also re-entered the top 40.

The album charts also features many climbers, with Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, James Bay, The Weeknd and Years & Years amongst those climbing after the Christmas period.

As Justin Bieber and Adele continue to dominate the charts in 2016, who do you think has the power to topple them? Tweet us your thoughts @CelebMix or leave a comment below.
