East London-based singer-songwriter Kae Sera releases her brand-new single, “Close Call,” a song about the fuzzy line between the fantasy and reality of desire.
Speaking about “Close Call,” Kae Sera shares, “This is quite an exposing track, something nobody ever admits or discusses. Desire isn’t something people speak openly about, particularly when they are in a relationship. I purposely left the ending open and unpredictable, just like life itself.”
Originally from Liverpool, the artist grew up in a city rich in musical heritage, exposed to the nostalgic soundscapes of the bands that made the city famous. These sounds subliminally fed her musical appetite, giving her music a vintage haze and maturity. With a fascination for literature and poetry, her songs provide a captivating, storytelling experience, pulling you into her world.
Kae Sera’s sound merges fresh electro-pop elements with retro flavors from the ‘50s and ‘60s, resulting in sonic potions at once distinctive yet familiar, unique and nostalgic.
“Close Call” follows on the heels of last year’s “Dames Jean” and “The Moon.”
“Close Call” opens on a low-slung, mysteriously elegant piano, followed by atmospheric strings and Kae Sera’s dreamy, exotic vocals. Shimmering tendrils of color expand on creamy, scintillating waves, creating a hypnotic soundscape dripping with spectral gesticulations.
As the harmonics escalate, riding a throbbing rhythm, washes of mist envelope Kae Sera’s deliciously delicate voice, infusing the lyrics with sumptuous, apologetic timbres.
“I’m not cheating / I’m not lying.”
Shushed yet bewitching “Close Call” reveals a balance of iridescent and enigmatic coloration, all capped by the opulent voice of Kae Sera.
