The first pictures of the new EastEnders spin-off Redwater starring Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie have been revealed.
The new six-part drama will see Kat (Wallace) and Alfie (Richie) leave Walford behind as they head to the village of Redwater in Ireland in search of Kat’s long-lost son.
The search for Kat’s son will uncover secrets that the Kelly and Dolan families – who have lived in the quiet picturesque village for generations – would rather were left buried at sea.
Speaking recently, director Jesper Nielsen said: “We have a really important and fantastic story to tell. About how one woman’s search for a lost child opens Pandora’s box; revealing the terrible lies and secrets in the little village of Redwater.
“A story about how the strong bonds of love in a family can hold everything together, and yet at the same time – destroy everything.”
Shane and Jessie will be joined by a large ensemble cast including; Fionnula Flanagan, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Ian McElhinney and Angeline Ball.
Redwater has been written by a host of writers including Life on Mars creator Matthew Graham, Julie Dixon and Lauren Klee. The drama is produced by Vicky Wharton and executive producer is Dominic Treadwell-Collins, who has worked on EastEnders for several years.
Filming for the six-part series has now wrapped and it will be aired on BBC1 in 2017.
