The 2016 Rio Olympics are about to begin.
As the athletes prepare for 17 long days of intense pressure, whilst the world eagerly watches, it wouldn’t be appropriate to not have a traditional pop anthem to arrive alongside it.
This year, the title goes to US singer and megastar, Katy Perry, as she prepares to rock the globe with her first single in two years named ‘Rise’.
Continuing with an inspirational tone, seen in her previous songs ‘Roar’ and ‘Firework’, the song is perfect for what is arguably the biggest sporting event in the world.
When asked about the new single, Katy Perry revealed Rise was ‘a song that’s brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface“. She also said the song will be a standalone track and will unlikely feature on her upcoming album. Later when questioned about the reasoning behind releasing the song as an Olympic track, she replied “because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite”. And we couldn’t agree more.
The song was officially released on the 14th of July, joined by a video the next day featuring footage from memorable Olympic moments. But now (August 4th) the official video featuring Katy herself has been released and it’s epic.
In this video extravaganza, Katy launches herself from a canyon, nearly drowns, gets tangled in parachute cables and almost drops from a cliff, all in the space of 3 minutes. Impressive!
Besides the drama, the video itself brings a very motivational message, urging viewers to keep going despite the troubles they may be experiencing as she continues to pick herself up after failure.
We can almost guarantee this song will be a success, already climbing charts in Australia, France and Scotland to name a few and with the release of this marvellous video it’s sure to climb even further up the charts.
