Coronation Street’s Kym Marsh spoke to ITV’s This Morning today about her character’s wedding dress and her real life engagement.
Speaking to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, Kym opened up about her recent break from fiance, Dan Hooper: “We’ve both been going through a really difficult time and it is tough obviously because there is that media spotlight but we’ve had a lot of support from our family and friends and that’s been invaluable to us both. I think our priorities are our children, we’re both kind of focussing on our kids and work at the moment. It is difficult, particularly when people feel that they know exactly what’s going on, when actually they know nothing.”
When Eamonn asked if their union might be repairable, Kym said: “That’s something for me and Dan to discuss together.”
Speaking about her on screen coupling in the ITV soap, Kym said she’d love her character, Michelle, and partner, Steve, to have a relationship like the iconic Vera and Jack: “I’d love to see that happen, my happiest times that I’ve been on the Street have been when I’m working alongside Simon Gregson. We’ve had so much fun together and it’s been weird when they’ve split us up and put Michelle with someone else. I don’t like that.”
Speaking about her character’s dress for her upcoming wedding, Kym said she doesn’t share her character’s taste: “No it’s absolutely not no. I went and helped get the wedding dress because obviously I know my character inside and out, so I went along to help choose the dress. It’s not something I would [pick], it’s probably a bit bigger than something I would choose but it’s very much what she would choose.”
And teasing Ruth and Eamonn about where the wedding reception might take place, Kym joked: “I think it’s not going to be anything grand so I think we can probably work out where the reception is going to be.”
Speaking about the Eurovision Song Contest which takes place this weekend, Kym explained that her dad is a huge fan: “I’m not a big Eurovision fan, my dad however is. He watched [the previews] last night instead of watching [me on] the Soap Awards!”
And on her own singing talents, Kym said: “I still love singing, I don’t know if I’d want to do it permanently now though because what I love about it is, I can dip in and out when I feel like it and that my livelihood doesn’t depend on it because I don’t know how good I actually was. I enjoy acting and stuff but I keep my hand in. David Gest usually gets me doing things for him quite a lot, he’s one of my mates.”
