Lea Michele joined The Fempire podcast for their fifth episode.

The Fempire is a celebrity driven podcast created by Keltie Knight, Becca Tobin and Jac Vanek. Each week, the three women talk about anything and everything in their lives with complete honesty and no censoring. They’re joined by a fellow celebrity every week, and this week, singer and actress Lea Michele stopped by to talk to them.

On the episode, Michele dished about her friendship with Emma Roberts, naked stretching, why she’d love to be best friends with Chrissy Teigen, and how she deals with tabloids and social media haters. The subject of finding new love and the difficulty of sharing it with the world was also brought up. Michele’s former relationship with the late Cory Monteith was beloved by many of her fans. This has made it tough for her to post photos of her current boyfriend, Matthew Paetz, without receiving negative comments from people who are upset that she has moved on. Michele says that she has incredible fans and that she understands where some of them are coming from, but that it upsets her when people keep bringing up her past. She wishes that people would spread positivity online instead of posting negative comments. When asked how her boyfriend handles everything she answered:

“That is honestly what’s so incredible about him (Matthew) that at the end of the day this industry is really tough and the only way to really get through, is to create a solid unit and that’s really what we have been since day one; we’ve stood by each other though anything that was thrown our way and he’s such a great man that he would never really let anything like that crack our lovely little core that we’ve created.
He is also very respectful for the person  that I was with, and that again is something that I love so much about him. And I really know Cory would love him too. Other people don’t know him and they don’t know my private life so I understand that people are going to say whatever they are going to say, but as long as he and I are good, my family is good, my friends are good  and we’re happy that’s all that really matters.”

Lea Michele also talked about her close friendship with The Fempire co-host Becca Tobin. Michele stated that Tobin is one of the few friends that she is actually excited to see every time they hang out. Although they both starred on Glee, they didn’t have many scenes together until the final season. In real life, the two stars bonded over their personal tragedies – the deaths of their boyfriends Cory Montieth and Matt Bendik. Michele said: “We were on a show together for years and […] we were brought closer due to a very unfortunate circumstance for the both of us. And it was sort of interesting for me cause I always knew that Becca and I had a lot in common, like both coming from New York, both coming from a Broadway background, and then having something so similar bring us together.” They both stated that they keep each other positive although tragedy brought them together. They both inspire each other to be the best people that they can be.
