Lewis Capaldi has entered straight at the top of the UK Albums chart with his debut offering Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent.

Notching up 89,506 combined sales, Lewis outperformed the rest of the top 10 and also achieved the biggest opening week numbers for an album this year so far. Ariana Grande’s thank u, next was the previous biggest seller of the year, achieving over 65,000 sales during its first week.

Out of Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent‘s 89k+ sales, 46% were made up of physical copies including 7,000 vinyl copies. The rest were made up of 34% of streams and 20% of downloads.

Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, Lewis said: “It feels good. It feels like I’m going to make some money finally, after years of slogging. It makes me so proud to have made this album. Thank you for everyone who went out and bought it.”

Lewis also shared his happiness on Twitter, stating that he was “blown away” by the news. He also used the opportunity to encourage his fans to continue supporting Save9Lives in memory of its founder Jim, who recently passed away. Lewis previously teamed up with the organisation, which raises awareness of organ donation, for the ‘Someone You Loved’ music video.
