After steadily climbing for the past few weeks, Lewis Capaldi has reached number one on the UK Singles Chart with his latest offering ‘Someone You Loved’.
During the week, the Scottish singer-songwriter faced a fierce chart battle against fellow Scotsman Calvin Harris and his Rag’N’Bone Man collaboration ‘Giant’.
However, Lewis finished 1,900 combined sales ahead, racking up 58,000 combined sales, including 6 million audio streams. Last week’s chart topper, Ariana Grande’s ‘7 Rings’, fell to number four.
Speaking to OfficialCharts.com about his latest feat, Lewis said: “Look who it is at Number 1! If you’ve listened to it, bought it, streamed it… thanks very much. This is my first Number 1, so I’m officially a one-hit wonder on the Official Charts.”
2019 has been an unbelievable year for Lewis so far, and he only seems to be going from strength to strength. After being announced as a runner up of the BRITs Critics’ Choice, the singer-songwriter has achieved two charting singles, ‘Someone You Loved’ and ‘Grace’, which hit a new peak of 24 this week.
The powerful music video for ‘Someone You Loved’, which features Lewis’ long distance relative, former Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi, has notched up over 3.7 million views since its release at the beginning of February.
Lewis recently announced that his debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, will be released on May 17. Alongside the announcement, he also revealed a huge world tour for later this year, with most of the dates having already sold out.
Currently on tour with Bastille, we can’t wait to see what else comes Lewis Capaldi’s way this year. With his heartbreaking lyrics, captivating vocals and tongue-in-cheek humour, he has already captured the hearts of many and is only set to continue his stratospheric rise over the coming months.
