Our bromance week is nearly over, but not before we celebrate yet another One Direction friendship. Today we take a look at the incredibly strong friendship between Liam and Harry.
Based on the one-dimensional images the boys have been painted by the media, it wouldn’t be surprising these two get along so well: with Liam being the sensible one, the ‘dad’ of the group, and Harry being the womanizer who has outgrown the energetic antics of Louis and Niall, it only makes sense for Liam and Harry to turn to each other, both on stage and off.
However, if you’re even remotely interested in One Direction, it’s easy to see that those images aren’t very realistic ones. Over the years, Liam has been corrupted by Louis and Zayn and it only takes one glimpse at James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke video to see that Harry has in no way outgrown this band – and we won’t even get into those womanizer comments.
The boys’ images might be false, but their friendship is undeniably true and probably stronger than ever. These boys have each other’s back like no other and maybe their rebellion against their pre-painted media images has contributed to that.
Remember that interview where Liam said that if he had to be any of the other boys for a day, he’d be Harry, because Harry “has to go through a lot of different things to be Mr. Harry Styles”? Liam doesn’t want to swap with Harry because he wants to be Mr. Harry Styles for a day – he offers it so that Harry doesn’t have to.
And last year, when Harry took the opportunity to tell the world that it’s “not that important” that his hypothetical partner is female, Liam was right there by his side, laying the groundworks for Harry’s comment, looking like the personification of pride when Harry spoke, and overall being a genuine supportive friend.
Meanwhile, Harry has taken every chance he got to show the world that Liam is so much more than just the serious one – mostly during their shows. While the On The Road Again Tour will forever be remembered as the tour where Lilo rose to new levels, the Where We Are Tour was Lirry’s time to shine. And shine they did.
Thrusting mics into each other’s mouths, throwing some crazy shapes, accidentally kicking each other’s casts (okay, that happened one time) and generally having the time of their lives, the Where We Are Tour was a true blessing for anyone who loves Lirry – which of course, we all do.
If anything, the Where We Are Tour made two things abundantly clear: the stereotype of Liam as ‘the serious one’ is hugely outdated, and Harry Styles was (and still is) completely happy and comfortable with his band and bandmates.
Now, we’re nearing the end of 2015 and Liam and Harry’s friendship is still going strong. Not that we needed any further proof of that, but this kiss, captured by someone in the audience at last weekend’s X Factor final, shows you everything you need to know about these two: they love each other a lot.
