If you were addicted to YouTube back in 2006 then you will definitely remember the web series LonelyGirl15.
LonelyGirl15 was a 16-year-old girl called Bree who recorded webcam videos from the comfort of her bedroom and became one the first YouTube series’ to become big online.
LonelyGirl15’s first YouTube video was posted, June 16th, 2006 and focused on the life of Bree Avery — who at the time people thought was a real person — and how she was chosen for some sort of ceremony. A few months into the series, it was exposed to be a hoax and it was revealed that Bree Avery was portrayed by actress Jessica Lee Rose. Though it was exposed as a hoax, fans still followed the web series regardless.
Now Bree, who had supposedly been killed off of the series, posted a chilling video on the 10th anniversary of the first vlog that was posted.
The video starts off with some codes being inputted. Then we see a black screen with the words what to do if you are selected. Next, Bree pops up onto our screens, explaining what to do if you are selected which is a throwback to when she was selected. Bree continues to talk about her experience with being selected.
Being selected can be a very frightening thing. it’s okay to be afraid. When I was selected I was terrified. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go through with the ceremony. And my friends thought something would happen to me. Nothing happened to me. Everything was fine. I went through with the ceremony and it was an honor, a privilege. I’m living proof of that.
Once Bree finishes we are greeted by the code screen again with the words “Get Ready” before we see a blank screen that reads “Brush up on your knowledge. She’s a very complicated girl, you know.” which is probably directed to those who haven’t seen the web series.
Now that YouTube is much more popular, The Fine Brothers Entertainment had popular YouTubers react to the first video.
