In the early hours of February 24th Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson took to Instagram with photos confirming rumors that the two would be attending The Brits.
While One Direction’s nominations were announced in January, fans and the press were unsure if the lads would attend as they were unofficially on their hiatus. Luckily for those who were missing the boys, Louis and Liam did in fact attend The Brits and even walked the red carpet to answer some interview questions.
The Brits hosted an official live stream on Facebook and while they unfortunately didn’t get to interview Liam and Louis – fans still got to see the two pose for photos, poke fun at one another, and laugh on the red carpet before they walked on to answer questions for other media and press.
During one stop Liam says he and Louis have been doing a bit of writing, Louis is working with a girl band, and while they get a little bored (Louis specifically pointing out he misses Jeremy Kyle) they seem to be enjoying their hiatus so far.
Another stop Louis and Liam made angered One Direction fans as the two stopped to chat with Dan Wooton, a man infamously known for being hell bent on painting the lads in the most negative light possible – especially Louis. It was painful to see the photo of Louis standing next to Wooton and it’s to be expected that he’ll gloat about his “exclusive” interview in the next couple of days.
In worth mentioning news…
The lads looked smashing on the red carpet, and Louis’ mum was his guest of honor! She took to Instagram to post a photo of the two and it’s our favorite of the evening.
Just hours later The Brits opened up with a performance by Coldplay and the first award of the night was presented by Liam and Louis, it was British Female and the trophy went to Adele. She took a moment on stage to thank the fans for her warm welcome back after being gone for so long before supporting Kesha and walking off stage with the lads. Seeing that much talent on the stage for a moment was incredible – they’ve got some of the best voices in music!
The lads posted Instagram posts through the night, showing that they were enjoying The Brits! Louis took a selfie on the red carpet before taking a photo of James Bay’s set while Liam snapped Louis and his mate Oli sitting behind a bucket of beers. We found ourselves wishing we were sitting on the receiving end of those beers too.
As the night went on, the performances happened, and the awards were handed out – fans of One Direction were patiently waiting for British Artist Video, the fan voted award of the night.
The voting closed, the results were calculated and One Direction took home British Artist Video – with Louis and Liam walking to the stage to accept the award and thank their fans for being the incredible people that they’ve been for the last five years.
It was a bittersweet moment seeing two of the four boys on stage accepting their last award in this chapter of their story, it was bittersweet to see Harry and Niall missing, but what was perhaps most bittersweet was the promise of hope, life, and freedom that come with the end of this part of their story and the beginning of a new one.
Support for Louis, Harry, Liam, and Niall is never in short supply, and their fans proved again tonight that no amount of drama or lies disguised as the truth will stand in their way of loving and standing beside four boys they’ve been on a journey with.
Teammates, One Direction and their fans are truly teammates.
