Three weeks ago, Macklemore released the first single from his upcoming album. The heartfelt song “Growing Up” was an homage to his baby daughter Sloane. Today, he dropped the second single called “Downtown”, complete with the music video.
As if collaborating with Ed Sheeran on his first single wasn’t enough, for “Downtown” Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis pulled even more out of the bag. They teamed up with Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe Dee, Melle Mel and Eric Nally, who sings the extremely catchy hook of the song.
With Downtown, the Seattle based rapper matches the catchiness of his previous hits “Thriftshop” and “Can’t Hold Us”. Add to that the video filled with synchronized dance moves and a vibe very similar to Bruno Mars’s “Uptown Funk” and we reckon “Downtown” just might be Macklemore’s next big hit.
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will be performing at the VMA’s this Sunday.
