Just a few minutes ago, Madyx unleashed a new single, called “Girl Boy.”
Madyx is the creative offspring of singer-songwriter/guitarist Michelle Blanchard. Based in Los Angeles, Madyx’s influences include No Doubt, Brody Dalle of The Distillers, and Kay Hanley of Letters To Cleo, while her sound percolates with infectious pop-rock and alt-rock dynamism.
Co-writing songs with The Nexus and songwriter-producer Pete Kirtley, along with a bevy of producer/writers in London, Stockholm, Berlin, and L.A., Madyx just finished writing and recording with the Saint City Orchestra in Switzerland.
With more than 70,000 streams on Spotify, her single “Bad Decisions” received beau coup airplay on KROQ Los Angeles, KNDD Seattle, and KNRK Portland, as well as international airtime on Lima, Peru’s Radio Doble Nueve , Berlin’s Flux FM, and India’s Radio 1. In addition, Madyx headlined 2018’s LGBT Pride Event in Orange County and performed at two festivals in Switzerland.
Madyx will make her acting debut in Spy Intervention, a film produced by Sunil Perkash (SALT, Enchanted, Premonition), even as her music is featured on the movie’s soundtrack. At the present juncture, Madyx is preparing to drop a new album, slated for release in early 2019.
“Girl Boy” opens with compact stuttering synths and high-pitched filtered vocals. It’s a great intro, grabbing immediate attention. Then the pop-rock tune takes off, riding a brawny pulsing beat and radiant harmonics laced with potent guitars. Glossy vocal harmonies back Madyx’s tight, energized nasal voice, rife with raw sumptuous sensuality and edgy textures.
Deluxe, stylish lyrics make “Girl Boy” user-friendly and addictive.
“I never had a boyfriend kiss me like a girl can / You should know my best friend is actually my girlfriend / Have you ever had a boyfriend dress you up and pretend / That he had a best friend kiss him like a girl can / Wearing baggy clothes and lipstick, blurring all the lines / Punk rock shirts and mini-skirts, blasting out Devine / What if Barbie had a mohawk and fell in love with Jen / G.I. Jo she’s got the flow, tangled up in men.”
“Girl Boy” is off the chain excellent. Madyx has got next up.
