Maisie Peters has unveiled her latest single, ‘Say My Name In Your Sleep’ – a stirring and atmospheric collaboration with Marcus Mumford that arrives as the third single from her forthcoming third studio album. Released November 19th, the track finds Peters pushing deeper into a mature, literary-leaning sound – one she says will define the tone of the new record.
Co-written and co-produced with Mumford at Real World Studios “in the deep winter”, the song grew out of what Peters describes as a “magical and spooky” creative environment. The pair’s partnership extends further, with the ‘Worst of You’ singer confirming two Mumford collaborations on the album – this being the first to surface.
Longtime collaborator Ian Fitchuk (Teddy Swims, Christina Perri) also joins the production team, while Australian singer-songwriter Gretta Ray contributes ethereal backing vocals.
‘Say My Name In Your Sleep’ draws on gothic undertones and is loosely inspired by Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca, a hallmark of psychological tension and romantic haunting. Peters frames the track as an exploration of past love that lingers, even as you try to move forward. “It’s a song about both haunting and being haunted,” she said, reflecting on the way old relationships imprint themselves on the psyche.
“It’s about keeping a constant eye on the past – on the person you loved – whilst being old enough and grown enough to know it wasn’t right, and to wish them all the best. It’s about having a tiny, secret sliver of your heart that still, deep down, hopes and prays they think of you – just a little, just when it’s dark, just when they hear that song on the radio. It’s about letting go, begrudgingly, but letting your shadow linger a moment too long.”
With Mumford’s influence woven into the songwriting and production, the track offers a striking preview of the world Peters is building next – one rooted in emotional depth, sweeping storytelling, and a touch of the supernatural.
