Manchester Arena has formally announced that it will once again open its doors to the public on September 9th. And will relaunch with a charity concert featuring some of the city’s biggest music names.

The venue has been closed since May following the atrocious terror attack which took place after an Ariana Grande concert on May 22nd. The heinous attack killed 22 innocent people, and injured hundreds more.

The Manchester Arena will reopen on September 9th with the ‘We Are Manchester’ concert. The benefit gig will honour all those affected by the atrocity. The show will feature some of Manchester’s biggest music artists and more big names to be announced soon.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Courteeners, Blossoms, Rick Astley and ‘Longfella’ poet Tony Walsh have been announced as playing the charity concert, and there will also be a pre-show DJ set from Clint Boon. More acts will be announced in the coming weeks.

Speaking about the ‘We Are Manchester’ event, the arena’s general manager James Allen said:  “All profits from the concert will raise money for the Manchester Memorial Fund, a charitable trust overseen by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, which will go towards establishing a permanent memorial for the 22 May attack. May’s events will never be forgotten, but they will not stop us – or Mancunian music fans – from coming together to enjoy live music. Manchester Arena has celebrated over 20 years hosting some of the greatest musical talent of all time, and the significant economic and cultural impact that this has on the city means that this legacy must continue.”

The arena has also confirmed that extensive security checks will take place at this and all future events, saying: “Public safety is always our priority. We’re doing all we can to keep you safe at our venue. Please remember we do not permit backpacks or large bags and you will be screened upon arrival.”

Tickets for the ‘We Are Manchester’ benefit concert will go on sale from 9am Thursday 17th August.
