The first ever HelloWorld was held at Birmingham’s Genting Arena just this weekend. Promising a “live immersive experience”, fans were able to walk along the Main Street and get involved with various activities. From books, baking, gaming, signings, live music, to even spotting your favourite YouTubers, there was something for everyone at HelloWorld.
On the Saturday, we had the opportunity to chat to some of the stars of the show. Here’s what Marcus Butler and New Hope Club had to say about all things HelloWorld and beyond.
Marcus Butler
Marcus Butler is best known for being a YouTuber, however, among many other things he is also a writer and co-hosts his own podcast. Having been a firm part of bringing HelloWorld to life, we were excited to hear from Marcus about the event in addition to his personal highlight of 2017.
On seeing HelloWorld come to life
It feels amazing. I think the real moment was when I arrived three days ago and kind of saw the guys in there building everything from scratch. I was like, ‘wow, this is actually happening’. It’s on this huge scale and it’s just epic, it’s going to be amazing.
On his role at HelloWorld
I have just finished my segment of the VIP tour, so I took a bunch of guys around, showed them everything and explained everything to them. I had a mini meet and greet, and did some stuff on stage. What I’m going to be doing in the day is a bit of a surprise – I’m going to be popping up here and there and then the show tonight, I’ve got a very exciting game I’m playing with a bunch of other YouTubers. Me and Louise are also performing a song!
On his personal 2017 highlight
My personal highlight has probably been writing. I’m working on writing some shows at the moment and I feel like we’ve really had movement forwards with those shows and that for me is like, ‘this is what I want to do’. It’s what I’m passionate about so let’s see where it goes.

New Hope Club
New Hope Club are a three piece band made up of Reece Bibby, Blake Richardson and George Smith. The band released their debut EP back in May and have spent a lot of the year on tour supporting The Vamps, and Sabrina Carpenter in addition to headlining some of their own shows.
On HelloWorld
Reece: It’s been class! We got here yesterday and we had the rehearsals and stuff. Getting set up was really exciting and to see it is amazing, it’s so cool and the setup is crazy. There’s a lot of people here, it’s such a good day.
On their 2017 touring highlight
Blake – Personally the show in New York has to be the highlight cos we’d literally never been to New York before and there were actually people who turned up and sold out the whole rooftop which was incredible.
George – And it has Buffalo Wild Wings which is like our favourite restaurant!
