Mark Ballas is set to play shoemaker Charlie Price in “Kinky Boots,” originally a book by Harvey Fierstein, with music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper. The Tony-winning musical, directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, still remains at Al Hirschfeld Theatre. The announcement came from Ballas’ social media pages.
Based on true events, the warm-hearted hit tells the story of two people with nothing in common- or so they think….
Taking on the lead role should be no problem for the two-time DWTS champion because he played Frankie Valli in the last Broadway run of “Jersey Boys” in 2016.
You can catch Ballas in the musical from September 11th through to November 4th in New York City. He will succeed David Cook (“American Idol”) whose last show is September 9th.
“I am so ready to come back to Broadway and can’t wait to step into those iconic boots and be part of the Kinky Boots legacy,” Ballas said. “Kinky Boots is a heartfelt, positive and joyous show with an even more beautiful message that we all need right now more than ever. It will be an honor to perform alongside this amazing company and get to tell this story eight times a week!”
Along with this new fun adventure, Ballas is also hard at work on Alexander Jean’s third EP, the band that he shares with wife BC Jean (“If I Were a Boy”). The first two EPs hit number one on the Singer/Songwriter chart.
