Melanie Martinez has released a new music video for the song ‘Alphabet Boy’ from her album Crybaby!
As with most of her other music videos, Melanie created the concept of the video and directed it herself. What’s unique about this music video is that it’s in sing-a-long style! The lyrics are included along the bottom of the screen with a bouncing ball, like karaoke. That’s not something we see very often in the world of traditional music videos!
Melanie teased on Twitter earlier that something was coming today, and some fans correctly guessed it would be the music video to accompany the new single.

Melanie once again plays her Cry Baby character that we’ve seen in her previous music videos, Pity Party and Cry Baby. In this video, Cry Baby (Melanie) is performing childlike activities like crawling on blocks and eating cereal in a high chair, while the hand of “Alphabet Boy” keeps interrupting her and taunting her. The video also takes a slightly darker turn when Cry Baby takes out a knife and water gun. Of course, this all takes place against a light pink backdrop, to match the aesthetic of Melanie’s album cover.
In a recent interview with Fuse, Melanie said that Cry Baby is all about “the contrast between light and dark: The childhood theme is the light, but the actual core are the songs which were a little more mature, honest and grown up.”
