Bear Grylls’ adrenalin-fuelled ITV adventure show in which he takes a group of celebrities on a 12 day survival mission, pushing them to their physical and emotional limits, is to return for a second series.

The series’ consolidated average over the first five eps was 4 million (15 per cent). The final episode on Friday 3rd April saw DJ and model Vogue Williams beat Olympic athlete Dame Kelly Holmes and ex-England rugby player Mike Tindall to be crowned Bear’s Mission Survivor.

Filmed in Costa Rica, Bear tested the celebrities at every turn on the fundamental principles of survival: shelter, water, fire and food. They had to abseil down ferocious waterfalls, cross perilous rapids, trudge through swamps and negotiate razor-sharp vines – not to mention contending with snakes, eating rats and scorpions and drinking urine.

Bear Grylls: Mission Survive was commissioned by Elaine Bedell, ITV’s director of entertainment and Comedy, and Peter Davey, commissioning editor, entertainment. It is a Bear Grylls Ventures/ Electus/betty production. Electus International is distributing the series internationally.

Bear Grylls said: “I’m so proud of Mission Survive and all it stands for: endeavour, comradeship and overcoming fears. For me it is about understanding that sometimes we have to go through genuine adversity to come out the other side better, stronger and more empowered. It is such a privilege to get to do it once more with our BGV, Electus, betty team and here begins the journey to find the next ultimate survivor!”
