This past weekend we went to the Cambridge Club Festival. A day ticket for the Saturday in which Lionel Richie was the headline act for the day. And what a day it was!
Cambridge Club Festival is a relatively new festival, it’s been around for about five years, the brainchild of Chris Jammers (who also created Strawberries and Creem) and is one that continues to grow in popularity year after year.
After spending the day soaking up the atmosphere, and the wonderful and varied tents we can see why. It’s first and foremost a family festival with something to do for all ages.
There is a real community vibe which adds to the enjoyment. No matter where we wandered within the festival grounds it felt safe and welcoming. Everyone from fellow festival goers to bar and food staff, security and the staff wandering around keeping the site tidy were all extremely friendly and seemed to be loving working there.
The sun was shining, and the deck chairs sponsored by drinks company Lillet in the premium area were comfy and the Margaritas from Pimentae went down well as the crowd around the main stage as did their secret stage.
With so much to see and do you find it hard to be bored. it was easy to cool off in the Orchard and enjoy the entertainment on offer there while escaping the glorious sun and cooling down in the shade for a bit.
There was so much music to enjoy but standout moments included Jo Wiley’s 90’s set on the main stage that got the crowd pumped with some classic tunes. As did Dick and Dom’s DJ set at the Imagination Station.
Lemar and Sophie Ellis Bextor both had the crowd dancing and singing along to some of their biggest hits during their sets. Sophie with tracks like the iconic Murder on the Dance Floor and Lemar with soulful hits Is There’s Any Justice and Dance.
Lionel Richie performed hit after hit, including All Night Long and Dancing on the Ceiling which he invited an 11-year-old girl from the crowd up onto the stage after he’d been watching her dance had she impressed him with her break dancing skills.
If you are looking for a festival that is great for all ages then you cannot go wrong with Cambridge Club Festival. It’s fun and has ticket prices to suit every budget.
