Los Angeles-based dark electro-pop artist Starless, aka Brianna Knickerbocker, unveils her brand-new single, “No No No.” The lyric video will release on June 10, followed by the visualizer on June 17.
Talking about the song, Starless shares, “‘No No No’ is an intimate revealing of what’s in a girl’s head, heart, thinking of this guy she’s seeing. It has a fluid dreamy feel. The soft, subtle electronic elements give this energy of a tough decision that has to be made and the impossible back and forth tugging at her…she could stay, and they could spend another night together…or she could leave…she doesn’t want to get hurt, but wants him badly, wants him to want her badly.”
Many may recognize Starless’ voice. Brianna Knickerbocker first lit up the entertainment world as a well-known Anime and Videogame voice actor, with popular projects like Demon Slayer, Genshin Impact, Fire Emblem Heroes, and Re:Zero. Her talents were rewarded in 2015 with the Staff Choice Award & People’s Choice Award for Breakthrough Voice Actress of the Year at the 4th Annual BTVA Anime Dub Awards.
A magnetic mix of dark pop and electronica, Starless’ music paints an evocative dreamscape through mysterious melodies, revealing the dark truths in our human experience through her lyrics, exploring our primal drives and unsteady hearts.
Opening on a low-slung piano topped by the evocative, haunting voice of Starless, “No No No” rides a measured rhythm full of heart-like throbs as shimmering washes of music glide overhead, imbuing the tune with the enigmatic flavor of aching desire.
Oozing nuanced, yearning passion, Starless’ vocals pulse with latent longing and smoldering yearning for her lover, balanced against the push a pull of caution.
Starless has it going on! “No No No” burns with emotional energy, straddling the boundary between overwhelming want and restraint.
