The CW has announced an upcoming musical episode of Riverdale is happening in season 2 and it will focus around the production of ‘Carrie: The Musical’.
This episode will be called ‘A Night to Remember’ and is based on a documentary about the high school theatre production filmed by Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), featuring 11 songs.
The Riverdale production of ‘Carrie: The Musical’ will be a “dark yet cautioning tale exploring the gritty realities of small-town high school life”. Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) will be serving as the shows-within-the-show director, and will be mixing elements from the 1974 Stephen King novel, the Brian De Palma’s 1976 film adaptation, the 1988 Broadway production, the 2012 Off-Broadway revival and Kimberley Peirce’s 2013 film remake.
Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) will be playing the lead role of Carrie White and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) will be portraying mean girl Chris Hargensen, whilst Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) will be playing golden-couple Sue Snell and Tommy Ross. Riverdale is already known for sliding in a few musical numbers in previous episodes, especially from Josie and the Pussycat Dolls, with the treat of Archie, Veronica and Betty all performing a rendition of ‘Mad World’ by Gary Jules. However, the show has never fully embraced the musical genre with a 40 minute episode before. So we can’t wait!!
The musical episode of Riverdale will air April 8th, 8pm, on The CW.
Riverdale airs every Wednesday at 8pm, on The CW.
